Mokrice, Mokrice Castle
ONCE A PLACE FOR LANDED GENTRY, NOW FOR CONNOISSEURS
The first written mention of Castle Mokrice dates back to 1444, and it acquired its basic Renaissance layout in the sixteenth century. The castle’s history includes finds from Roman times, when a road passing the area ran towards Constantinople, and finds from the times of Turkish incursions. The later owners of the castle, generally noble families, adapted the castle, arranged parks and gardens, while the von Gagern brothers painted here and wrote novels. Numerous legends are related to the castle; the best know tell of Countess Barbara, who – unhappy in love – threw herself from the castle tower; her ghost is said to walk the corridors and steps of the castle to this day. Today the Castle Mokrice is a high-quality hotel, offering a sense of another era. The mighty castle walls contain stylishly designed apartments, suites and rooms in the castle towers, while the former granary has air-conditioned rooms, and golf lovers can choose from eight golf suites in the clubhouse. Culinary masters at the castle restaurant offer luxurious lunches and dinners, and the chance to try the best Slovenian wines from the castle cellars, while the clubhouse in the middle of the golf course has a restaurant aimed at golfers. Mokrice is an exceptional location for formal events, conferences and other meetings, and official receptions. These events can be held in our luxurious reception facilities, the atrium and castlecourtyard, or in the two castle halls and Barbara hall in the castle annex. Golf is also becoming an increasingly important part of such events.Weddings at Castle Mokrice are a wonderful experience: in the wedding hall, the castle courtyard, in the shadow of the venerable trees in our English Park or even on the golf course.Castle Mokrice, surrounded by the dreamy, verdant Dolenjska hills, near the playful klopotec rattles in the vineyards of Bizeljsko, and the bubbling thermal springs, is the perfect place for a rest.
