Municipality of Ljubljana

Its inhabitants and many of its visitors say that Ljubljana is a city on a human scale. Although it is a medium-sized European city, it retains the friendliness and relaxed atmosphere of a smaller place, while offering everything that larger capitals do.
Its geographical location is also an excellent starting point for discovering the exceptional diversity and beauty of Slovenia.

Ljubljana is a city of culture, which can boast one of the oldest philharmonic societies in the world. Every year over 10,000 cultural events take place in the city – from top quality musical, theatrical and art events, to alternative and avantgarde happenings – with its 14 international festivals worthy of special mention.

In Ljubljana culture is not only a matter of prestige, it's also a way of life. Slovenes are probably the only nation to celebrate a day of culture as a national holiday. Art and culture have helped Slovenes – who live in a place of transition between the more powerful and more numerous Germanic and Latin peoples – to maintain their own language and identity.

Artistic creativity in Ljubljana is particularly intense; the intriguing cultural pulse that marks the unique approaches of numerous Slovenian artists has made Ljubljana a special challenge to the many foreign artists who visit it. These characteristics ensure that events in Ljubljana satisfy even the most demanding connoisseurs.

Musical events in Ljubljana express its two main features – its rich traditional, and its youthful feel. Over the year, numerous major musical events and festivals take place in Ljubljana, from classical music to jazz, ethno, rock and more alternative forms. While the Ljubljana Summer Festival, Slovenian Music Days and Summer in Old Ljubljana events offer elite events with classical music concerts and occasional tastes of jazz and avant-garde creativity, every year Ljubljana hosts the Druga Godba festival, one of the best world music festivals in Europe, and the impressive Jazz Festival.
